Upsetting news as it has emerged that Marilyn Burns has been found unresponsive in her home in Texas on August 5th 2014. At the present time no cause of death has been given.
Burns became a horror icon due to début role as Sally Hardesty in Tobe Hooper’s 1974 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre with a terrifying performance that still strikes chills into viewers forty years on. Her performance led her to being cast in Hooper’s next film, Eaten Alive, which also featured Robert Englund.
Burns also starred as Linda Kasabian in the three-time Emmy-nominated series following the trial of Charles Manson, Helter Skelter. Her career never really took off though and from 1985 until 2012 she only starred as a prop in Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation. She did return to the saga in Texas Chainsaw 3D through archive footage and by playing Verna Carson, the grandmother and carer of Leatherface.
Deepest condolences go out to Marilyn Burns’ family, friends, and all of the fans that she has built over the years.
